SATURDAY
I went to the dentist and they pointed out that the area by my crown is getting bad. I explained that I was kind of scared to be rough around there since it fell out before. The hygienist told me that it is understandable but that is the worst thing to do. And I could potentially lose my tooth if it continues. She was really trying to scare me. But at least she was honest. All the others I’ve seen don’t really say much. She seemed like she was really thorough. Anyways, after that I went home and got ready to go over by Aunties house for FG's bridal shower. I pretty much wasted the day and was lazy until it was time to leave. ES and I talked on the phone and had our usual analytical conversation. This time about status and superficiality. She totally over read what I was telling her and it turned into a big debate. Then, my mom and me kinda got into an argument. Well not really… but she did piss me off. She complained about FG’s shower. She said how many parties do they have to have. That she’s tired of running around for people. Then she says why does she have to go to Jamaica. Like it’s a bad thing. Like she’s being forced to go. She hasn’t even done anything for Grace really. Not that I’ve done much, but she hasn’t done anything but maybe chipped in some money here and there. I guess I’m not getting anything special if I get married. Why is it tat so many people bitch about weddings? Do they not see how much the bride is going through and they think that their little problems are big. I don’t know how Grace does this. I totally think that FJ's idea is cool. I would totally do something like that. Because its is so not worth it to spend like $40K for people to complain, for a shitload of stress, and for the dinner of millions of people who you don’t even know because your parents are trying to show you off. Even more justification for not getting married. I don’t know. Then I find out that the real reason that she is all pissy is because of my dad and the building in the Philippines. Now she’s blaming him for all the problems. She said she has so many enemies now because of him and that building. But last week she was saying that he’s the only one doing the right thing and that everyone else is greedy. Can she make up her mind ??? She’s so wishy-washy. I want nothing to do with that building. It’s too many problems. Afterwards, I stopped and picked up the cake and they kept telling me how tan I was and how much weight I had lost. It felt good since I really haven’t heard that in a while. I have only been plateauing for the past 7 weeks now. Ugh !! But it’s my fault. Anyways, I took the really scenic route to the expressway and ended up going all the way down Pulaski to Cermak. I don’t know how. But I saw that it was Mexican Independence and realized that it is mid September already. Before, this would have been a big thing and we all would have been cruising around and checking everyone out in the neighborhoods. Why can I let that stuff in the past go??? Anyways I got to my aunts house and FJ and I went to the store. Then to the shower. The shower was really nice. Surprisingly not too many people. But alot of food. Mostly catered by Gilbert. God he can cook !!!! It the only time I can really have GOOD Filipino food!!!! We played the stupid games and talked and had fun. I especially like the kissing game. It was fun watching FG try to guess who was kissing her. A lot of FG’s friends were there and we were all talking. Anyways, later in the night FJ call me and tells me that her fiancée called the wedding off. It was so weird. I was at a bridal shower celebrating my cousins wedding and here I was on the phone with my friend telling me about her breakup. I felt so bad for her. She does not deserve this. But I totally think that this is all a result of the whole arranged marriage thing. I don’t really know what to say to her. But I know she is strong, more so now that ever, and she can get over this all. After the call, Joy and I left to her house. Her house is soooo cute. She has an awesome backyard. And the house is just sooo adorable. The only thing I don’t like is that the ceilings aren’t very high. Other than that, I think its perfect for them. That night, FJ, DM, and me stood up drinking, talking, and playing card till about 330am. I had fun. We talked about the culture shock for DM and how loud Filipino women can be. FJ and I talked about our families. We ate again. For some reason I was hungry AGAIN. And then DM taught me how to play poker. He’s cool. I really like him. I think they are a really good couple. And now they’re getting married too. Its really kinda scary realizing this. I’m the only single one left in my family now.
